Doctor Strange, in the animated Marvel series What If...?, is a variation of the Stephen Strange fans know, but with a drastically altered backstory and significantly darker path.
In his reality, Christine Palmer, instead of Strange's hands, is the victim of the car accident that shapes his future. Overwhelmed by grief and guilt, Strange dedicates himself to mastering the mystic arts, not to heal himself, but to undo Christine's death.
